This circular is what I saw and still seeing in our so called ladakh buddhist-vihar since I was in school back 10-11 years .Well irony is only about 50% of land actually belongs to ladakh and rest to Tibetan or personal , still we call it ladakh Buddhist vihar because long back about half century ago we fortunately inherited this small piece of land in our national capital. People who mostly from middle class and below middle class using this place ever since .This place since 1962 then become a hub for a people in need .
Need of shelter for people who come to Delhi for their medical(some serious)check up.
Need of shelter for our old people who hail from ladakh specially in winter to get relief from the extreme weather that their body can no more sustain.
Need of shelter for our grand parents who hail from ladakh to visit the holy places before they retire from their life.
Need of parents while coming Delhi for their children admission in schools and colleges.
Need of shelter for parents coming to meet their children during vacations.
Need of shelter during emergency.
With so much expectations our people come to Delhi spending a lot of money having no idea about the huge nagging for the room here .More and more people are coming and since they can't afford some hotel they have to stay in hall just right to the gompa , to my disgust some are even staying on veranda just outside the room paying 10 /day in this cold Delhi winter !! Since theirs no transparency at reception I guess theirs something fishy going in that too. Due to which many lay people face difficulty in getting room. My argument is regarding 2 things.
1) Structural
2) Maintenance and Sanitation.
As per Structural point of view our ladakh buddhist vihar was built about half century ago when our whole population was half of our current demographic status and we still having that same old building of which even the working life is over . That can fail anytime according to engineering facts, but we are living in because we have no choice .When we see around the Gompa we'll notice buildings which are taller and built based on current living standards with proper sanitation. And in between our place look like an old kila .We are in very desperate need of capacity with proper design so that we can not only afford our current demand but also taking in
mind the future prospects. I don't have any idea who's in authority for all this matter all I want is just to present my concern and to give a little spark to this issue or problem or this mess .Its very painful to see our gan-gon crawling in that hall and on veranda outside room in this cold winter also with the cold wind coming from Yamuna. I see not much difference between them and people living below flyovers .Its very painful to see our old people coughing in that old hall with the feeling of helplessness in their heart .After so much expectation while coming to Delhi for the first time and may be last time for some, they get this old hall and Veranda. We require better rooms and we can have one if we all just push our system to renovate this old building into new and larger one. At the moment i don’t know which door I have to knock but atfirst we just need to have a little awareness of the demand and need . I know some have their own home in Delhi and they don’t have to take any toil about it but I think every single ladakhi has used this place at some
point of time , I think every ladakhi has used this place when they had nothing in Delhi and I think every one of them have atleast one of their relatives using this place. This place which become a small ladakh in winter where we celebrate our LOSAR ,this place which itself is history with lots of our sweet memory, where many Losar we celebrated here, many changes we made in our way of celebration, Many VIPs came and went, Many students from Delhi and all over India made their fortunes living in one of these room , many have even built empires using this room for their business trip, many have bought one of latest cars using this place. But still this place is same as it is since we inherited from H.H Kushok BAKULA Rinpoche.I wonder where we would be staying if we had not this place in first place .I wonder where in Delhi we can think of staying at an affordable expense if we hadn't this place .Every student has used this place when they came here to start their career.
As per maintenance & sanitation its awful , first thing that will shock is toilet which is common for both man and women and which is always blocked and stinky( toilet and common !! ).God knows where those whole money that come from tariffs go , may be it gets deposited since 1962 for future renovation or may be in someone's pocket god knows , because since it was built its just same with same old fan , the same old bed , the same old bathroom ,the same old room and the same old bulb !! .Ofcourse there was some renovation in it , I remember but it was not enough at all. It was just like refilling the same old pen which is no more in use ,what I think should is to change the whole pen. I just been to Dramsala ,Tso-pema and Dehradun with my Aneyley and we stayed in some Gompa just like ours but I didn't see people living in hall and outside veranda instead there was room with attach bathroom and television in it at an affordable tariff. Seems everyone is aware of change and the need but I guess we are too busy into building new hotels and guest house, buying new cars, buses and filling our pocket.
What I expect is ladakh buddhist vihar with enough capacity with rooms single and double with attach bathroom and without,
what I expect is facility of e-booking of room so that we can book our rooms even while we are in ladakh ,
what I expect is transparency of booking on first come first serve basis ,
what I expect is clean and separate toilet ,
what I expect is availability of our own mess with our own cuisine ,
what I expect is common room where people can have atleast some fun .
Well actually we ladakhi are far ahead of our counterpart like Spiti , Kailang, Kargil etc though we have same source of earning but somehow we didn't notice this problem yet. Before I stop writing I must conclude that my circular or article whatever suits you is partial and also unbalanced, I believe I haven't done my homework well and I am sorry for that. And I am equally guilty of every charge I made above. May this can hurt someone's sentiments .But what I have written above is mere fact . I know everyone is aware of these drawbacks but the way we see generally on these drawbacks is not as a whole. Its my endeavor to put all our drawbacks in one so that we can easily focus on our priorities , It is my endeavor to spread this problem to our high authorities who can make this change happen. It is my part of endeavor the most any student can at the moment.
*Whoever is reading this circular please try to forward it to your neighbors after you are done with it, will be very oblige to you all.
P.S : In someway we are at cutting edge building 5 or 7 star hotel or buying latest car or new house or we are becoming hot tourist spot in world , but we are still lacking the leader , the visionary ,the selfless, the philanthropist and his holiness like Kushok Bakula Rinpoche, because of whom many like me can read and write today.
